| The camaro starter had to be used due to the flywheel and clutch set up.The 4.3L block had to be redrilled to accept the new starter.Lots of fun there. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Centerforce clutch with T-56 bellhousing. The stock flywheel was replaced with an lt1 flywheel .You can almost see the floorboard,a new whole was cut for the shifter.Aprox 4 inches further back. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Finally did what I started to do about 6 months ago. After breaking several stock New Venture transmissions,I decided it was time to upgrade. What better trans than a T-56.The swap requires replacement of the flywheel and clutch assembly to start out with.Pretty straight forward there. The flywheel is about 30lbs lighter that the stock one and very much smaller. The stock starter was not even close to the new flywheel,I used a nose cone for an Lt1 starter and reused the motor portion of my starter.Lt1 starter are mounted differently from the 4.3L.I had to drill 1 new monting hole for the starter. Before I could even think about drilling a mounting hole for the starter I had to cut an ear off of the stock aluminum oil pan. This was a lot of fun.Used my best guess and drilled the hole and tapped it.Starter sounds good,no problems so far. Time to stab the tran for other modifactions.Stabbed tranny and found out that the crossmember was not going to work in the stock location.I did reuse the stock tranny mount.I had to relocate the crossmember about 3 inches back.Drilled a few holes on the drivers side and reused to of the 4 mounting holes on the drivers side.Soon come to find out that the drive shaft's to long.My stock drive shaft had some sort of vibration dampner on the front of it,I knocked that off with an air hammer and had driveshaft cut down 1 inch.Fits perfect. Ive since made a new crossmember out of some tubing and angle iron. Figuring out the slave cylinder was also fun.The only way you can get the camaro slave cylinder is by buying the hole setup,it comes as a sealed unit. The mastercylinder mounts completely different and the line was way to short.Did some playing around and figured out that all the lines and fittings came apart by removing the roll pins from the connectors. So I dissasembled the camaro slave cylinder and used just that peice.I reused the stock master cylinder and found a line kit for a 94 C/k truck that I modifed to work on my truck. I reused the Edelbrock Y pipe with small modifactions to the bell housing and the left side of the Y pipe. After installing the trans I realized that the exhuast actually has more ground clearnce now.The trans is mounted up closer to floorboard. Time to cut new hole in floorboard and patch old hole. The shifter is aprox 4 inches back from the stock location.I cut the hole the same size at the new shifter insulator so that I could seal it up good.I got a peice for sheetmetal and cut to fit old hole and sealed it off forever.Have yet to relocate the console. Will require some modifactions to the console to get it back in there. After installing it we drove it and found that the 3.42 gears where not going to cut it.I had a freind drive beside me to check speedo, which is about 30-40 mph off now.Found that in 6th gear at about 90mph the 4.3L was only turning about 1800 rpms.Time for some new gears.I chose 4.88 gears due to the large diameter slicks used at the track.I did not correct speedo, will be installing lt1 soon and will need to mess with it.There is a 40 tooth transmission speedometer reluctor ring that can be installed to repair the speedometer issues.Email me for more info. troy@slammed98gmc.com |
